The Department of Oncology in Næstved handles the specialized cancer treatment in Region Zealand.

The Department of Oncology and Palliative Units, in the Zealand University Hospital in Næstved is the lead partner in InnoCan with the overall responsibility for managing the project.

The department, which consists of several sections spread across multiple hospitals, handles medical cancer treatment, radiation therapy and specialized palliation in Region Zealand.

Currently healthcare professionals give about 30,000 radiation treatments annually. About 80 percent of the patients from Region Zealand that needs to have radiation therapy can be treated in the Department of Oncology in Næstved. The department is building an academic research centre where Professor Dr. med. Jürgen Dunst from the University of Lübeck is attached as an adjunct professor at the University of Copenhagen. At the same time, there is an active cross-border research collaboration between the university clinics in Lübeck/Kiel and Odense and cancer registries in Denmark and Schleswig-Holstein with the Department of Oncology as a bridge builder.
